OverWatch, available beginning November 19th, is an extension of Need for Speed Rivals that lets you not only watch a friends' game while they're on the run, or trying to bring down those who are, but to get involved with your own special abilities.
Using a tablet, smartphone, or over the web through a browser, Overwatch gives you a top-down view of the world of Need for Speed Rivals.
You can monitor what your friends are up to, or take action to help or hurt them, by repairing or damaging players' vehicles, deploying roadblocks, or refilling nitrous.
Taking an action against your friends will send them an in-game OverWatch message, letting them know who is pulling the strings.
To jump into Overwatch from within Need for Speed Rivals, press the Play OverWatch button on the Need for Speed Network screen, or select the OverWatch option that appears when you select a friend driving around the map.
When you enter OverWatch to interact with your friends, you go from being able to see all your friends on the Need for Speed Network map, to entering your chosen-friend's multiplayer world.
While in OverWatch, you'll earn Fuel, which powers your involvement and abilities.
Fuel is used each time you use an OverWatch Ability, or send your Network Driver away on a mission.
Each time your OverWatch level increases, your Fuel bar will be instantly refilled.
You'll additionally earn OverWatch Speedpoints--different and unique from Cop and Racer Speedpoints--any time an Ability is used, or a Mission is completed with your Network Driver.
New abilities are unlocked by earning OverWatch Speedpoints and increasing your OverWatch level.
OverWatch Mission let you earn extra Speedpoints by sending your Network Driver away to do extra missions.
These missions have a set duration, cost in fuel, and chance of success.
You'll gain more or less Speedpoints based on your Network Driver's success.
OverWatch Abilities empower you to:
Refill or drain a friend's NOS bar
Repair or further damage a car's health
Refill or revoke ammunition
Jam a Friend's Pursuit Tech for a few moments
Roadblock a Racer with a line of Police cars
Deploy a Police Helicopter that drops a spikestrip in your Friend's path
Once your OverWatch Level is high enough, a special event will be unlocked and automatically added to your playlist to be accessed in Need for Speed Rivals.
These special events, when completed, may grant you a Car model or Livery.
